Welcome to Little Treasures’ Nursery

Life at Little Treasures’ Nursery is full of fun, with exciting and enjoyable learning opportunities at every turn. At the heart of our Early Years curriculum is the vision and Christian values of St Laurence’s C of E Primary School: “We strive to reflect the love of God, the love of life and the love of learning together in all we do.”

From the very beginning, we work closely with parents and carers to ensure every child feels happy, safe, and supported. Our Nursery is led by experienced teachers who immerse children in their learning while providing strong foundations in early reading, phonics, and mathematics, preparing them for their journey into school.

Starting Little Treasures’ Nursery

At Little Treasures’ Nursery, we offer places for children from the term after their third birthday. We have three intakes each academic year: at the start of the Autumn, Spring, and Summer terms.

Before each intake begins, we hold stay-and-play sessions, giving children and parents the opportunity to explore our Nursery environment, experience our provision, and meet the staff. We also carry out home visits so your child can see a familiar face before starting, helping them to feel more confident in their transition.

To support families further, we provide a detailed information pack with everything you need to know about starting Nursery with us. We ensure that every child, including those with SEND, feels motivated, engaged, and supported to develop independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Our Curriculum Offer

To inform our unique curriculum offer, we use the ‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (2021)’ and ‘Birth to Five Matters (2021)’. These frameworks set out the three prime areas of learning that underpin everything in our Nursery: Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

The four specific areas support children in strengthening and applying these skills: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. The Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning are woven throughout, supporting children to become motivated, curious, and confident learners.

Daily Life at Little Treasures’ Nursery

At Little Treasures’ Nursery, we prioritise children’s personal, social, and emotional development by creating a safe, nurturing environment where they feel valued and confident. Through supportive relationships and play, we help children build self-esteem, form friendships, and learn to understand and manage their feelings.

The development of every child’s communication and language skills is at the heart of our daily practice, as spoken language underpins all seven areas of learning and development.

Each week, we explore a new high-quality story, helping our children develop a love of reading, spark their imagination, make connections, and deepen their understanding. We have a welcoming and popular reading area in our Nursery, and children are encouraged to take stories home to share with their families.

We take part in daily phonics sessions following our school’s ‘Bug Club’ scheme, as well as daily maths lessons where children develop a deeper understanding of numbers to 5. We carefully consider how each area of our provision supports mathematical understanding, making maths meaningful and purposeful. Children also engage in physical development activities such as dough disco, squiggle, and Penpals sessions, which help to strengthen hand and finger muscles in preparation for writing.

At Little Treasures’ Nursery, we create enabling and irresistible indoor and outdoor learning environments, thoughtfully enhanced with authentic and meaningful objects and experiences. We aim to inspire our children and nurture their curiosity to know more and learn more.

We place a strong emphasis on learning through play, recognising it as a vital part of every child’s development, and children spend the majority of their day engaged in meaningful, play-based learning. Through play, children explore, set their own goals, and develop their problem-solving skills. Our teachers carefully interact with children during their play, extending their thinking and supporting their next steps in learning. We also ensure children have the time and space to become deeply involved in their play, allowing their ideas and understanding to grow.

We encourage opportunities for mark making, exploration of the world around them, and creative expression through art, music, and the use of instruments, supporting children to develop their imagination and communicate their ideas in a variety of ways.

Communication with families

At Little Treasures’ Nursery, we want to keep our parents/ carers fully informed about their child. Each child has their very own learning journal, where their artwork, photograph and observations are recorded to celebrate achievements and track progress. We also use the communication app, ‘Seesaw’ to share frequent photos, updates, and reminders with parents/ carers, ensuring families are fully involved in their child’s learning journey. We frequently invite parents into our Nursery across the year to celebrate their child’s learning journey and celebrate special occasions.
