Our aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from their pre-school setting into Reception class, continuing their Early Years Foundation Stage journey.

Welcome to Reception

Learning through play will continue to be an important part of the school day. We aim to develop play based learning that follows the children's interests. During part of the day children will also work in small focus groups on different areas of the curriculum to promote motivated, enthused and eager learners.

Parental involvement;

It is vitally important that parents and staff work together to develop each child's interests and achievements this can be done verbally or recorded on a post-it note or a piece of paper. This can be entered into your child's book as evidence.

Each child has their own set of books to track progress throughout the year in Reception. We will be inviting you in for an open session to share the books. Please note that any work that you do at home can also be brought in and kept in your child's books. The children and you, as Parents, have access to these books in order to celebrate your child's achievements.

We encourage parents to read to their children and share book and stories as often as they can. In Reception class we also introduce a book bag with a school reading book.  This is not designed to replace the bed time story, but rather to encourage the process of reading by developing good habits. There is an expectation that you will share this book with your child each evening and note this in their reading diary.
